WHITCHURCH United have wasted little time in appointing a new manager, with former Romsey Town boss Carl Bennett taking charge.

The new manager replaces Jim Macey, who recently called time on a successful four-year stint at Longmeadow.

He will be assisted by Dan Piper and goalkeeping coach Nigel Green who were both with him at the Bypass Ground.

Bennett took over the Romsey reins last October, stepping up from the assistant manager's role when Danny Barker quit.

But he and John McFarlane, who later joined him as co-manager, were unable to prevent Town being relegated from the Sydenhams Premier Division and were subsequently replaced by 21-year-old head coach James Phillips.

Whitchurch chairman Brian Jackman said: “Carl is a young coach who is keen to make his name in the Wessex League Premier Division.

“He is aware of Whitchurch’s history and past achievements and very excited to be joining the club. The focus will now be on pre-season training and building his squad in preparation for the pre-season friendly matches.”

“This is the start of a new chapter, which Whitchurch and Carl are very much looking forward to. Carl and his team will take up their new roles immediately and begin preparation for the coming season.”
