Justin Rose is still Hampshire’s sole representative in this year's Open Championship, after a number of the county’s stars missed out at final qualifying.

Eight players from the region had made it to the last hurdle between them and a place at the third major of the season, which this year is being held at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake.

However, none of them could earn one of the last remaining spots in the field.

Corhampton amateur Scott Gregory came close, shooting three-under-par for his 36 holes at Woburn, one of four venues hosting final qualifying.

That was enough for a share of eighth place, but was a couple shy of getting one of the three qualification spots at that course.

Fellow amateur Billy McKenzie, of Rowlands Castle, finished on three-over and in a tie for 36th at the same venue, while AIA Group professional Nick Redfern was joint 39th and Hockley’s Jack Stubbbington was tied for 61st.

At Hillside, Rowlands Castle pro Darren Wright finished in joint 24th, New Forest’s Chris Tyrrell shared 49th place and Blackmoor’s Stuart Archibald withdrew at the halfway stage.

Lee-on-the-Solent’s James Ablett tied for 13th at Sunningdale’s New course.

European Tour pro Richard Bland still has two chances left to qualify, firstly at this week's French Open and then the Scottish Open.

The leading three players who have not already qualified, and who finish in the top ten or ties, at those two events will win a place at Hoylake.
