Southampton on verge of signing Dusan Tadic from FC Twente

Daily Echo: Dusan Tadic Dusan Tadic

DUSAN Tadic’s club manager has confirmed he is on the brink of joining Ronald Koeman’s Saints revolution.

The 25-year-old Serbian international sat out FC Twente's 14-1 friendly win over amateur club VV Oldenzaal at the weekend due to his proposed transfer.

“Everyone knows he is close to an agreement,” Schreuder said. “We don't want to take any risks with him at all.”

Tadic, the fourth top scorer in the Dutch League last season as well as providing the most assists, is believed to be costing Saints around £9m.

Good news! How about in tribute to the 5 year anniversary of Markus Liebherr saving our club, we post our favourite memory during this period?
Positives only day!

Mine was the away day at Brentford, we won 3-0 we looked like a team of men playing against boys. I knew then that we were on our way to the top again!

Unfortunately I've been a saints fan too long to get excited about new players coming until they're pictured holding the shirt, BUT this guy looks good and will be a statement of intent, the signing ball has to start rolling soon he can give it the first push. Also if we're gonna get rid of Osvaldo let's just do it, we don't wanna another season loan, just get what we can and move on, the little we get for him would probably cover Pelle, good times!!
I think my favourite memory was the initial announcement of the takeover, this was not a consortium, not a dodgy (Pompey) deal, it was a straight up lock stock buy out from a respected billionaire who showed his face at some league 1 games etc!! It was amazing and despite some bumps it continues through his daughter!! Proud to be a saint for last 25 years!!

Great idea, Swede, and it seems to have put a smile back on Seed's face.

So many great memories of the past 5 years (and, of course, a few bad ones). I'll go utterly personal and a tad left field and say Carlisle away and we lost 3-2, just because it was a surprise for my lads who had no idea what I had planned until the Friday night in Warrington Travelodge. The look on their young faces when I showed them the tickets will forever be a priceless memory, and the Carlisle fans were everything the skates are not.

RIP St. Markus!

The JPT final will always be a happy memory. But my personal match was our final game of the season against Coventry - McSheffrey was bombing down our flank (at this stage Coventry were relegated) and hit the cross section of our post. He went off injured shortly after and then we smashed the rest of the game to win 4-0 or 4-1 to be promoted.

Back to the hopeful signing, Tadic looks good on Youtube, 25 years old quick, strong, skilful and hungry and seems to enjoy his job, from what I've seen IMO he could be better than AL but the test will come when he's playing in the Premiership and I do not think he will have a problem adapting, he is an International having played against the best in the world and it seems he's nearly a Saint and could be completely tomorrow COYR

Positives only day!

Mine was the away day at Brentford, we won 3-0 we looked like a team of men playing against boys. I knew then that we were on our way to the top again!
Ricky's appearance and 1st Goal for England was pure unadulterated magic for me. Absolutely brought tears to my eyes.

I have ALWAYS beleived that our trail from the depths of despair was led by Rickie in body and Marcus in Spirit.

My other personal hero was Brett Ormerod who was never quite first choice or top of the performance tree but a true Club Player who gave his absolute all for the Saints

I don't believe for a moment we have £100m to spend in the kitty, probably half that, the rest will be needed to cover future wages.

Yep, but let's see what he's like first eh? Agree, in theory, but then I was massively excited about Gaston and Osvaldo. Hopefully Ronald's inside knowledge means he knows what he's doing, but then we thought that with Poch and Osvaldo.

One thing is for sure, not all our signings will be absolute run away hits - no club ever has a 100% hit rate. We just have to hope Ronald is a good gambler.

Quality not quantity is right though, but if we do splash out £20 million-plus for anyone it needs to be for a current Premier League player such as Lukaku, Bony, Benteke or Ba - someone we are confident will be an instant success.

Personally I'd be concerned if we were bringing floods of players in - quality not quantity and, with all the out goings of late the last thing we need is more revolution.

There are a few players who will be feeling Mo Po's departure opens a door for them (within the club, not to Liverpool) and we need to give them a week or two in training to prove themselves before piling in loads of players.

Could be wrong, but Spurs, QPR Newcastle and Sunderland splashed out on seven or eight players each in recent seasons and it all went horrifically wrong for all of them. I particularly remember people getting very irate in the winter transfer window when Arry was signing the likes of Remy and Samba because we weren't buying anyone.

Liverpool could be making a similar mistake this summer to Spurs - bringing in a huge volume of players and spending the Suarez money before they have it. Foolish in my opinion, but we'll see.

Absolutely no limit as long as it stays within the rules. No harm in having blinkered vision (like me), but we all know reality is somewhat different. No harm in posing confrontational opinions, but if they are wrong, you should be prepared admit it, if you are right you should be thanked for your fore site, but that rarely happens on here. If you cannot take criticism then there is no point entering the debate. It isn't a popularity contest, attention seeking is frowned upon but it isn't illegal. if someone gets it wrong, that is it, they are not automatically idiots, just misinformed or misguided. Ignor the TU/TD option unless it gets to 3 figures either way!

Time to air my thoughts:

Sad to see Lambert go, but fair play to the club for doing the right thing and to Ricky for his official statement. Thanks for Everything SRL. I do feel we didnt play to his strengths last season and would have liked us to have had some pacy wingers pinging the ball in to the box on more occasions. Dont feel Liverpool will get the best out of him unlike maybe West Ham would of done.

The money offered for Luke Shaw was too good to turn down especially when we apparently have an even better left back coming through (Matt Taggart, i think his name is)

60 Minute One trick Lallana in my opinion was the most over rated player in our squad, Yes the odd moments of class but no consistency. 25 million 100,000 a week?? Fabregas was similar money and he is 10 x the player.

Lovren is a good player, but with that attitude Liverpool are welcome to him for 25 Million ( well done to the board for standing firm)

I personally think that Liverpool are going to struggle next season, Trying to replace a world class player like Suarez with mediocre signings like Lambert, Lallana, Cann is a bad idea, just ask Spurs. Gerrard is getting older, Johnsons a liability, Lovren alone will not stop them shipping goals, alexi sanchez is clearly not interested. Without Suarez they are a million miles from Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea. Enjoy your one season in the Champions League Adam and Dejan.

Back to Saints, and i for one am pleased to have RK and his coaching set up, Sammy Lee seems to have a good record as a coach / assistant (unlkie his managment record). We have money in the bank, a world class training facility, fantastic proven academy, structured board of directors, an owner (who unlike other clubs appears to have an interest) and still a good squad:

GK: Boruc, Davis, Cropper, Gazza
D: Fonte, Yoshida, Hoover, Chambers, Clyne, Taggart
M: Spider, Cork, Wanyama, Davis, JWP, Ramirez (to step up this year)
S: Makuya, Rodriguez, Gallagher, Sharp
Add Pelle, Tadic and 2 or 3 more at 10m each, along with what is due to come through the academy and we are looking good. (yes i know Taggart, Sharp and Makuya are unproven at this level but so were Shaw, Lambert and Rodriguez 2 years ago!)

This is a far better squad than many others currently in the PL, and even if we spend 50 million now we will still have cash to splash in january if needed. Based on another 25 million for Lovren and whatever for Osvaldo.

Roll on the new era, the futures bright its red and white (stripes) Another positive.

My favourite moment has to be Saints v Coventry, 4-0, Promotion sealed, Pitch Invasion, Pub. Thanks Markus RIP[

We have money in the bank, a world class training facility, fantastic proven academy, structured board of directors, an owner (who unlike other clubs appears to have an interest) and still a good squad: GK: Boruc, Davis, Cropper, Gazza D: Fonte, Yoshida, Hoover, Chambers, Clyne, Taggart M: Spider, Cork, Wanyama, Davis, JWP, Ramirez (to step up this year) S: Makuya, Rodriguez, Gallagher, Sharp Add Pelle, Tadic and 2 or 3 more at 10m each, along with what is due to come through the academy and we are looking good. (yes i know Taggart, Sharp and Makuya are unproven at this level but so were Shaw, Lambert and Rodriguez 2 years ago!) This is a far better squad than many others currently in the PL, and even if we spend 50 million now we will still have cash to splash in january if needed. Based on another 25 million for Lovren and whatever for Osvaldo. Roll on the new era, the futures bright its red and white (stripes) Another positive. My favourite moment has to be Saints v Coventry, 4-0, Promotion sealed, Pitch Invasion, Pub. Thanks Markus RIP[ saint robbie

Positives only day!

Mine was the away day at Brentford, we won 3-0 we looked like a team of men playing against boys. I knew then that we were on our way to the top again!

Rickie's goal for England was absolutely fantastic for me - as many of you know, I've been working in Edinburgh for the past few years, and was in the Standing Order for the England vs Scotland match. When the Scots went 2-1 up, they were dancing on the tables. When Rickie scored on his first touch in international football, there was only one voice to be heard, some bloke in a Saints shirt by the bar :-)

My favourite memory was finally seeing us beat Nottingham Forest in the 3-2 win on our way back up... every other time I'd watched that fixture we'd drawn or lost

From the bits I've seen he looks like a player with GREAT vision of what is going on around him and is great a finding the pass for players MAKING RUNS off him.
Seams to MAKE TIME on the ball to bring other players into the game, and never seems rushed..
The down side is his heading and marking of opposition players.

He will need time to get up to speed of game in England as the pace of the game in this country is twice the pace of the game in Holland.

I hope this is the start of many because we will NEED THEM as it is generally agreed that only something like 50% of any transfers are an instant success whoever the Manager is.
(Needed 3 at the end of last season + 3 quality players have left + Dejan and ?Morgan? = A lot of players to bring in)

Thank you for your kind compliment and without patronising I think you post good comments along with many others not to mention Confucious who seems to be able to put a smile on at least one face and that's me most days with his gems.
It's good now the anger is subsiding but not forgotten about the desertion of the deceitful Manager and want away Players with perhaps 2 more uncertainties remaining, once these are resolved it will full steam ahead with just over 5 weeks away to what could be far more exciting season than the previous, IMO if there's any doubts about the direction the Club is going I for one have never doubted what the Board and the Players want and that's to continue the exciting prospect of progressing higher with the summit in sight, with the Club in this mood how could they ever want to stop the onwards and upwards it's never going to happen, this week will probably be the new signings week and Ronald's first sit down interview that I'm looking forward to.
I am looking forward to the friendlies to see who fit's in and where and particularly interested to know if Billy Sharp has a part to play, I have been sympathetic for him as he was disguarded at the start of last season and understandably admitted his disappointment, if he does get in the 1st Team and plays it will be the first time for him in the Premiership so good luck to the new Management and all the Players in the Club for the future.

best memory of the last 5yrs? so many but listening to radio solent and getting the announcement that we had been saved, a sudden rush of relief and knowledge that we would still have a club to support brought a little tear to my eye. I didn't care if or when we would get back to the prem I was just delighted we were still alive and kicking. then on the final day of the season when we got promoted what joy! didn't run straight on the pitch but took a moment to sit back and let it all sink in, just couldn't believe we had got back so quickly! happy days thanks ST Markus, saints legend.

I guess that over the last two weeks since his appointment Ronald Koeman has been traing and assessing the player he has at his disposal before getting carried away with signing a shed load of players.
Much as I have wanted some positive news when you sit back and analyse the situation we are faced with at SFC he has to get his ideas into place.
It may be that he has identified a few gems within the club that he is confident will carry out the business on the pitch.
I look forward to a few quality and not quantity signings and wish the club along with all the genuine supporters all the best for the coming season.

Good news if it's true...one coming in at last. However, I hope we don't get too many players costing this much....we already needed to strengthen before our team started leaving en masse, so we now need 6 or 7 new players imo and we can't afford them all at £9m with the debts we owe on last season's transfers...

Dead right. All this money available and yet all this dithering. We were told the Club had a network of scouts all over the globe sussing out possible candidates for St Marys. What have they found so far? I too am getting anxious about this new board. Where is the open contact with us fans that was promised?. Hopefully things are moving behind the scenes but why the almost total absence of communication?. Have Kruger and Reed gone on their summer holidays?

I like the look of Dusan, he looks like a quality replacement for Lallana.

A fond memory of mine in our climb back to the top with thanks to Saint Markus was away to Leeds in March 2012. Rickie smacked in an early volley and then they proceeded to batter us for the rest of the game. Super Kelvin was on fire that day and was mobbed by our boys at the end for keeping a clean sheet. An ugly away win in adversity was the stamp of a mentally strong team destined for promotion to the big time ..... and we did.

there is no need to panic - like a post said above - Koeman will assess everyone in his squad first before being rash with cash. Obviously he would know a couple of players he wants in areas where we have lost players, hence why we are linked with Pelle and Dusan. The rest now will be Koeman working with the scouts seeing what players they have identified. I imagine that in the next week we will announce a couple of signings and maybe a couple more before the first game of the season. There then maybe another 1 maybe 2 before the transfer window shuts. However, i think there is a group of youngsters that will appear on the bench much more this year, the likes of Sinclair, Rowe, Targett, Turnball etc. I think Koeman will do what he done at Feyenoord put his faith in some of these youngsters and see where we are before committing too many funds.

Excellent post. Really good point about Ron assessing the current squad before buying the right players. He wasn't in the Prem or even in England so his knowledge of our players would have been fairly light and zero as far as the academy lads yet to feature. It's not just about good players its about the balance.

Lee Harvey Oswald shopped in B&Q? You are having a laugh. How about posting something relevant about the thread or even something in praise of Markus, or a light hearted memory of a good time supporting the Saints (you do I presume?) rather than nit picking wrongly about my sign on practices?

Graham, North of Watford says...

Really good seing so many positive comments - shows how much love there is for the Club.

I'm almost certainly getting past it (I watched Terry Painr and Ron Davies) but I do feel a sense of quiet calm about our new Manager.

Love the Dutch anyway and now I think of it I can remember Ronald playing for his Country.

But I think all the other comments are bang on. Now is the time to see some signings and show that we are moving forward and looking backwards.

I am also hoping that 1 or even 2 of those who appear to be leaving might be staying on - but I don't think so.

My choice to prove that things were now on the up would be for Morgan to stay but not holding my breath

A few pivotal moments in Saints recent past from me. League 1 - Guly's winning goal against Bristol Rovers when we were coming to the end of the season and automatic was still in the balance with the Udders contesting it. The game was heading for a draw until Guly settled it with a brilliant collect, turn and finish (a player who went on to score 12 leagues goals in the championship promotion team but remains reviled by most fans). Championship - beating Brighton 3-0 at home and unequivocally putting Gus Poyet in his proper place. Prem 2012-13 Puncheon's equaliser at Chelski - confirmed we were staying up (and would have in spite of MP).
Last season - Spiderman's goal against Norwich fantastically complex exchange of passes and movement moving the ball from one flank to another and back again before culminating in a superb finish - this was a goal that had the Saints brand stamped all over it.
favourite all time moment - Danny Wallace's bicycle kick against Liverpool in 83-84 season one of the greatest goals of all time let alone Saints.

Decent signing, would have rathered a right winger or attack midfielder though rather than a Lallana on the left, don't think he'll be taking J Rods spot, so he'll be playing out of position. Would definitely like a better striker than Pelle though, I'd even prefer Danny Ings if we spend £10 mill at least he's got time on his side. I would obviously like somebody better than ings though, need to try and get some higher profile signings than these two, not saying we need much better but at least a few players with a future, players who will get better.

Can he play through the centre or on the right though, that's all I care about. J Rod was my favourite player the last couple of seasons, he has more potential than anybody so I can't see Tadic taking his place unless he goes up top and Pelle is just a backup.

Just remembered why I hinted about you being a skate, it is your sign on name, if you check it up, you will find it is a phrase used a lot on Pompey scarves, flags and parephenalia, and has not to my knowledge ever been attributed to the Saints, I am probably wrong, but that was my thinking at the time, sorry if I got you wrong, but you did rattle my cage a bit.

This is not good for my nerves - get someone even a new programme seller in for goodness sake.

I may well end up kicking the cat in frustration and that'll be the excuse the wife needs to beat the crap out of me. You see how this can escalate into something quite serious. I don't like hospitals so please please please sign someone!!!!!!!

Memories.
More than a few.
I will take up the Brentford one though, as I went ticketless in the vain hope of getting one on the day. In the spirit of Rodney Trotter winning that holiday, one mate acquired a Junior ticket in one of 'the four' pubs and got in by sleight of thumb.
Now, I've never seen refugees running to get aboard transport, but it must have looked something like watching a succession of our agile 'youth' sprinting through back gardens and alleyways to access the ground, with many 'sacrificing' themselves to the stewards so their mates got in.
Being older (and wiser?) I never did get in, but heard and toasted every goal in the four pubs with others of 'that number' and went home slightly more inebriated than most.
Happy Days -most spent watching Saints.

At last... some GOOD news! (although still waiting for confirmation from the official site) First of many great players to get on the bus. How brilliant would it be to finish above Liverhampton and Spuds!

Next good news... Lovren puts a full page apology for his disrespectful actions and realises what a dic* he has been?

Markus memory has to be his smile that lit up Wembley
Markus Liebherr - the smile of the century.

Good news! How about in tribute to the 5 year anniversary of Markus Liebherr saving our club, we post our favourite memory during this period?
Positives only day!

Mine was the away day at Brentford, we won 3-0 we looked like a team of men playing against boys. I knew then that we were on our way to the top again!
Johnson s paint trophy WEMBLEY . Marcus loved the day , and it was the real start to our RISE UP UP UP

Is anyone else slightly concerned that the Echo hasn't once used the headline 'Desperately Seeking Dusan'?

It's an open goal just waiting for a tap in.
