Churchills A captain Mark Mclean’s aim for next season is to ensure Eastleigh Railway C don’t achieve another Southampton & District Snooker Super League title.

Mclean’s side won the Burroughes and Watts Cup against the Railwaymen but came unstuck in the league as they were pipped by John Barton’s side.

But this time around Mclean wants a different outcome, in which his side finish the campaign with the league and cup double.

“Hopefully next year we’ll have them (Eastleigh),” said Mclean.

“Any team with any ambition will look to win the double and that is our aim.

“There’s a lot of quality in the league. It used to be quite top heavy but now there’s a small collection of very good teams.”

The cluster of top teams in the Super League is compromised of the Railwaymen, Churchills A and Chandler’s Ford Central A – they are all expected to battle it out once more for the top prizes.

Churchills’ side is made up of Mike Finn, Billy Castle, Adam Nash, Mclean, Kev Knight and Nick Jennings.

And it will be that team who will vie for the league and cup titles next term.

The club also picked up a series of awards outside of the team game.

Finn picked up the individual knockout F Mintrum Cup title after beating Rail’s Dave Mumford in the final.

And duo Adam Nash and Billy Castle lifted the pairs knockout Badger Shield after beating Chris Holland and Dean Glasspool in the final.

Mclean was very pleased with the B&W Cup victory.

“We’re very happy to win the cup,” he said. “It’s always very tough to win because you have to perform time and time again.

“I’m really pleased, it’s a great achievement.

“Cup games are always a lottery because it’s a one-frame shootout. You’ve got to be on top of your game.

“With everything that was going on, including trying to win the league and battling for the cup, if everyone stays together it’s going to be a very interesting season.”
