Jopling thwarts Hogan comeback to seize title - darts roundup

Ian Jopling just managed to thwart a comeback from England’s Paul Hogan to claim the Winchester Open title and £400 at the city’s Sportsmans Social Club.

Jopling, from Aldershot, was cruising at 3-0 up and had darts at a double to go further ahead.

But Basingstoke’s battling Hogan got the match back to 5-5 before Jopling hit off with a couple of 140s to go on and secure the title.

Nikki Stevens beat Harriet Raynesford to claim ladies’ section.

The annual tournament was backed by Greene King and organised by Chris and Dameon Duff and Steve Houghton.

Waterside Charity League: Ash Spencer nailed a 160 finish for Waterside as the third-placed Division 2 side defeated Jolly Sailor 5-4.

Elsewhere Old Mill B’s Pete Phillips and Forest Home player Jake Surplice both hit 116 game shots as there was a 108 check-out for Russell Clark of Travellers Rest B.

Totton & District League: Normans lead the way in a four-team race for the title after defeating the venue’s Saxon side.

Ray Green hit a 13-dart leg and for Peg & Parrot as they kept themselves in the hunt with a 5-4 win over the Elephant & Castle.

Second-placed Players had a comfortable 7-2 victory over Salmon Leap while The Keys took their turn for a bye.

Southampton Clubs League: It was lucky 13 for Bitterne Park C who registered their first win in as many attempts. They just got the better of mid-table AFC Totton but are still anchored to the foot of the table ahead of the venue’s two other sides.

Bradley Kirk chalked up a 15-dart leg for leaders St Denys and teammate Peter Flooks checked out on 100.

Bitterne Park Ladies’ League: Ladies league. Ice House made their way to the Team Knock-out final after defeating Waggoners 4-1 in the semis. They will take on Nursling Club who got the better of Junction 4-3.

Swaythling Club will take on Gardeners Arms in the Consolation Cup.

In the Mixed League Karen Blackshaw checked out on 107 for Grover Tavern and R Moffatt on 126 for Eastleigh FC).
