AFC TOTTON defender James ‘Monkey’ Roden has retired from football following a recent hospital scan on his knee.

Having previously played for the Stags as a midfielder, Roden has been superb in central defence this season after returning in the summer from Folland Sports.

“It was an extremely difficult decision for Monkey to make but, after discussions with his family, he felt it was the only one he could make,” said a club statement.

"All at the club wish him the best of luck going forward and we hope to see him soon at the Testwood Stadium.”

Totton have also announced that last season's top scorer Craig Feeney has been released from his contract following his return from Australia. Southern One South & West rivals Winchester City have shown an interest.
