Ronald Koeman does not think his relationship with Arsene Wenger will turn sour despite their tunnel bust-up at the Emirates Stadium.

Koeman and Wenger exchanged words after the teams drew 0-0 on Tuesday night.

Wenger was attempting to confront referee Lee Mason to complain about what he saw as a host of bad decisions from the official.

The Gunners boss is reported to have told Mason: “It’s always the same with you.”

Koeman was also in the tunnel at the time and is said to have told Wenger: “It’s always the same with you.”

He is understood to have gone on to point out that Arsenal had a host of chances in the game, and that it was not Mason’s fault that they failed to take any of them as the game ended in a goalless draw.

Koeman confirmed the incident, saying: “What was written in the press was true, and that’s all.

“It’s emotions in football and it happened, and we go on.

“Not any more comments about that.”

Koeman said he didn’t regret the incident but that it won’t affect his long term relationship with the Arsenal boss.

“No, I don’t think so,” he insisted.

“It’s always a little bit emotions and he was very disappointed about the result because they had some good chances, but you don’t score.”

The pair also disagreed over the performance of referee Jon Moss when the sides met on Boxing Day.

Saints won the game 4-0 but in his post-match press conference, Wenger said: “The second aspect is that on the first three goals we were really unlucky with the decision of the referee.

"The first goal was offside, the second goal was a foul and third goal was a goal-kick, so if you're a bit below par and on top of that you have the first three goals against you in the decision-making then it's even more difficult.

"On top of that, well done Southampton and I hope in the next game we have this kind of decisions for us.”

Wenger’s comments were put to Koeman who replied: “Only the first three? He didn't say anything about the fourth goal? That's strange.

"I like to analyse the game and if you lose 4-0 and you talk about the referee it's not my way to analyse a football game."
