Bubbly Launch For The Cinema
Borehamwood's new cinema at the Metropolis leisure complex will open on Tuesday January 19 at 7.30pm and five lucky couples can win a pair of tickets to attend the star-studded gala event.
The Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor David Banks, will officially open 'the Cinema' at a champagne reception which will be followed at 8.30pm by a special premiere screening of You've Got Mail starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Indepently owned and operated, 'the Cinema', situated within the Metropolis complex at the former Tesco site in Shenley Road, will be open to the public on Friday January 22.
"We have four screens and 600 seats, and we will open with three current releases and a brand new film, Practical Magic, starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock -- and we'll have Saturday and Sunday morning Kids Club and a regular matinee classic", said Managing Director David Senior.
"Our first matinee will be It's A Wonderful Life, the James Stewart classic. We hope it's going to be a wonderful life for all the film fans in the area.
"We will provide the best facilities, the newest films and the friendliest environment.
"We know that cinema-goers have a choice", he added.
'The Cinema' is the first section of the new Metropolis leisure complex, owned by The UK Leisure Corporation, to be completed. In addition to 'The Cinema', a 14-lane bowling alley, health and fitness club and restaurant will be open to the public in early Spring.
The re-development of the site in Shenley Road represents an investment of more than £12million.
It will provide employment for nearly 120 people when the various businesses are in operation, 20 to 30 of which will be provided through the cinema.
