Marj marches off with title
A 78-YEAR-OLD carers' champion has been named Greenwich's Woman of the Year.
Women of achievement Julia Cowdell, Marj Price and Edna Hearndon
Marj Price, from Charlton, who has supported other carers across the borough as well as looking after her son and husband through illness, said she was “shocked and very proud” to receive the title.
She said: “This is a wonderful occasion and I feel privileged to be part of it.”
The event was organised by Greenwich Council's women's unit to honour local people who have made a difference to other people's lives. It was held as part of the celebrations for International Women's Day.
Mrs Price was given £200 and a gold plaque for winning the honour.
A silver award went to Fola Akinsowon, a volunteer advice worker at Plumstead Community Law Centre and a supporter of a project for abandoned children in Nigeria. Other silver honours went to Julia Cowdell, for her work to improve the environment in Greenwich, and volunteer Ena Hearndon, who has led the Gateway Compass Club for young adults with special needs for 40 years.
