Pub-based writers toast success

Winchester writers have been celebrating their first published work with a party at a city public house.

The Black Boy Writing Group takes its name from the popular Wharf Hill pub.

The group gathered to mark the publication of their first anthology recently.

Sturgess Is Missing was inspired by the Black Boy regular, a secretive chap called Sturgess, who features in the photograph.

Happily for the production of diverse ideas, the group says its members have practically nothing in common except a love of writing.

They range from recent graduates to the retired, from well-connected professionals to one member currently trekking the Thai jungle.

Their various skills have enabled their book to be typeset and the covers designed in-house - a complete production that showcases their talents.

Winchester currently has two pub-based writing groups. The Hyde Tavern on Hyde Street also hosts regular meetings open to all writers.
