Unemployment at top of agenda
BUSINESSES have joined forces to tackle youth unemployment by supporting a campaign by a work programme provider.
Maximus UK held events in Southampton and Eastleigh attended by more than a dozen firms supporting its “Win Win” campaign which tries to get young people into employment, education or training.
About one in four 18 to 24-year-olds are believed to be unemployed and at risk of their skills and confidence rapidly declining.
Maximus UK encourages businesses to employ young people under the Government’s youth contract, through which employers can receive subsidies of up to £2,275. Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne said: “After visiting The Maximus Centre earlier on in the year, I have seen first-hand how the centre really helps young people break down the barriers to work. These are hard economic times for so many but young people, in particular, often need a helping hand to get into sustainable, long-term employment.”
Businesses can sign up to the campaign by visiting winwinwith max.co.uk.
