TESCO hopes to win over busy parents and young professionals by providing Winchester’s first grocery drive-through service.

Shoppers are able to buy their goods online and pick them up at the store in Winnall by presenting their order number.

Tesco say the Click & Collect point, situated in the car, has been busy since opening just before Christmas.

Ian Crook, tesco.com marketing director, said: “We believe this will be especially popular with busy mums who have the school run and children’s activities to manage.”

“They can collect their food shopping on the way home from work or at any other time that suits them,” Mr Crook said.

Tesco was the first retailer to trial drive-through supermarkets back in 2010.

The scheme is now being extended using new permanent collection points that will house the groceries in temperature-controlled units until the customer is ready to drive through and pick up.

Tesco has also invited Winchester primary schools to draw pictures and send them in, with the winning entry being printed on 500 jute bags, and £250 going to the school and the winning child bagging £50 for themselves.

Tesco, the world’s third largest retailer, hit the headlines this week (January 15/16) when an inspection revealed that horse meat accounted for 29 per cent of the meat in their Everyday Value beef burgers.
