MORE than 300 York residents have signed up to a scheme aimed at helping cut energy bills – which is set to save them just under £36,300.
City of York Council is one of five Yorkshire authorities to work with the Community Energy Direct programme and consumer organisation Which? to help people find the best deals from gas and electricity suppliers.
The “switch” scheme is expected to lead to the average household’s annual energy bills falling by £137. Community Energy Direct director Hugh Goulbourne said the scheme was set to save people across Yorkshire about £1 million, with some cutting bills by more than £500 a year.
Coun Dave Merrett, said: “I am delighted residents have benefited from this scheme.”
