A REGULAR visitor to Southampton’s port is gaining celebrity status as he keeps a watchful canine eye over proceedings.

Bentley regularly visits the docks with his owner, Nick Wright, and is training to be a Hampshire Search and Rescue Dog.

When he qualifies next year, Bentley and Nick will be on call round the clock to help police and the coastguard in searches for missing people.

He’s proved so popular with staff at the port that he now has his own Twitter profile, where he keeps people updated with his latest news.

Owner Nick works at Solent Stevedores and says: “Bentley is a very loyal companion and fun to have around. He always has a watchful eye over us, and keeps ever vigilant.”

While Bentley hasn’t had to be called into action to rescue anyone at the port yet, he will soon be ready to bound into action should an emergency arise.

Nick, from Sholing, Southampton, added: “He’s keeping himself busy in the meantime making friends with staff, and keeping a watchful eye over the port.”
