EIGHT jobs will be created and walkways and paths improved thanks to a £360,000 grant.

The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) received the money from the government’s Coastal Communities Fund to help develop the 60-mile Solent Way Coastal Path, which links Milford-on-Sea with Emsworth Harbour.

The scheme also includes work with local communities to maintain and develop woodlands, wetlands and ponds and working with schools.

Five of the eight roles will be paid traineeships enabling people with no experience to gain skills, hands-on experience in conservation activities and more formal training.

TCV project manager Paul Forrest-Jameson said: “We’re delighted that we’ve been awarded this grant.

“The Solent Way runs for 60 miles along the Hampshire coast and passes through some beautiful and wonderful locations.

“We are looking forward to working with our local authority partners and local people to help improve and highlight this special place and through this create and support local jobs and businesses.”

TCV was awarded the funding by the Coastal Communities Fund, which is part of a £90m investment pot being allocated for projects around the English coast.

Coastal communities minister Penny Mordaunt said: “This money will help create jobs, boost skills and open up new business opportunities.”
