BUS drivers from across Hampshire are hoping for victory at a prestigious national competition this weekend.

The Bus Driver of the Year show is a high-profile event in the industry and those taking part are tested on all aspects of their profession, including practical skills and customer care.

Southampton man Andy Attwood will compete against others including Kelvin Livett and Bob Green from Portsmouth.

All three earned their places by winning in national heats and will now go on to the main event in Blackpool.

Nick Sutton, delegated driving examiner for Hampshire, Dorset and Berkshire, has been putting Mr Attwood through his paces.

He said: "We have previously finished in the top five but a place in the top three still eludes us as we have been pipped to the post in the past by both first Devon and Cornwall and First Cymru.

"This year just may be our turn and I am quietly hopeful that our combined efforts in preparation for this year might just produce a winner."

First Hampshire driver Mr Attwood has taken part in two previous finals and managed to come in the top 30 on both occasions.
