A COMPANY founded in a bedroom four years ago has opened a new HQ in Southampton city centre.

The Mortgage Hut, an expanding mortgage brokerage, began life in the bedroom of its founder, Chris Schutrups. It now has seven offices across the south.

Between 40 and 50 guests attended the official opening of its office in College Place.

A Champagne reception was followed by the official ribbon-cutting performed by Peter Brodnicki, CEO of the Mortgage Advice Bureau (MAB).

Chris, who grew up in Southampton and attended Cantell School, said: “I sometimes find it hard to believe the company I began in my bedroom four years ago has now not only expanded to seven branches across the south, but also incorporates specialist mortgage advisors Police Mortgages and The Contractor Mortgage Company.

“Our company is thriving and our new headquarters is a mark of that. Our expansion means we have and will be recruiting more staff which is good news for our company and the local economy. We’ll also continue to invest in skills by offering apprenticeships in the mortgage industry.”

The Mortgage Hut will be working as part of the MAB’s network.

Peter Brodnicki said: “I am looking forward to seeing the company build strongly on the success it has already achieved, and working with Chris and his team to deliver an outstanding, professional and valued service.”

The Mortgage Hut employs 30 staff and has branches in Andover, Eastleigh, Basingstoke, Winchester, Newbury and a second premises in Southampton in London Road.
