CHAMPAGNE corks are popping at Wise Group after it won the public contract for this year’s PSP Southampton Boat Show from industry giant Compass Group.

The win meant ten days’ work for 200 local casual staff and takes the total number employed there by Wise to 350.

Meanwhile, pre-orders of the fizzy stuff have soared as has corporate hospitality, with demand for both rocketing ten per cent as firms shrug off the economic slump and start spending again.

It has been providing corporate hospitality at the show for more than 20 years, but following the landmark contract win from Compass for the first time this year Southampton based Wise will provide all the food and drink at the event.

Wise will be using its Premier Food Courts brand for the public areas, while its luxury Wise catering brand will deliver the corporate covers.

It anticipates selling a staggering 4,000 bottles of champagne together with 20,000 pints of Guinness and more than 5,000 glasses of Pimms.

Chris Treacher, managing director, said: “The group has continued to witness an increase in demand in the corporate market and this year we anticipate an uplift of about ten per cent for the show.

“Through the combination of Wise Catering and Premier Food Courts we expect to serve the vast majority of the 110,000 visitors that are forecast to attend the PSP Southampton Boat Show.”

The Boat Show is a highlight of a busy calendar for Wise, which includes Wimbledon tennis championships and Six Nations rugby among its flagship events.

The firm has also this year launched a yacht charter business.
