Plans submitted for new ‘landmark’ office project in Millbrook

DEVELOPERS have submitted plans to build a new “landmark” office block at the former NXP site in Southampton that will create 300 jobs.

Canmoor Developments said the modern three-storey office block will become a new “landmark gateway” at the entrance to Millbrook Trading Estate as part of a £24m redevelopment of the site, now known as Endeavour Park.

A part-empty four-storey brick office off Second Avenue, currently home to Radio Tactics and the Solent Education business Partnership, will be flattened to make way for the new 27,555 square foot (2,560 sq m) offices, which will have 300 parking spaces.

Canmoor Developments said the new “well designed” office development will result in a “high-quality scheme that is an asset to the area”.

It said it hoped the development would act as a catalyst to attract Business to the area and “inject much needed investment into the local community during this difficult economic period.”

The development has been backed by Hampshire Chamber of Commerce .

The six-acre plot is part of a larger 15-acre site on the Millbrook Technology Campus bought from NXP by Canmoor and international property fund manager Cordea Savills on behalf of the Diageo Pension Fund.

Work on the other nine acres has already begun to demolish the now vacant NXP semiconductor factory, once a major employer in the city, for newindustrial units and warehousing.

Canmoor is offering industrial and warehouse pre-lets from 20,000 to 170,000 square feet.

Defence electronics firm Selex Galileo, which lets some 125,702 square feet of space and employs around 180 staff, will remain on the site under an existing lease.

Does a foot not deserve to become plural when there are 27,555 of them?

Just what we need is yet more office space, when so much empty office space in the centre...
There is 1,000's of square feet of office space at dock gate 4 is just 1 example...
Really need something to boost proper employment, not more offices to remain empty.

So want to replace an office block that isn't used to it's capacity with another one that's even bigger.

Hmm, somebody's getting a big wodge out of this one maybe.

It is reasonable to suppose that Canmoor know what they are doing! They need a flagship building to promote the site. Jobs in Southampton is the benefit and that is what matters.

Didn't you know it is the tories fault?
They sold this trading estate & were pilloried for it in this paper.
If this company fill this building & do the same to the rest of the estate who then will be credited for selling the estate & bringing hundreds of jobs to the city? the Tories?

Sorry but the ones who slated the selling of this estate seem very quite now & I was trying to be a bit humorous

Or how about just building some affordable housing instead? If this office block becomes occupied, it no doubt won't be additional jobs coming into the area, just a firm doing a balance sheet exercise to move its offices from somewhere else, leaving another older building to be dealt with!

The clue is in the title "Millbrook Trading Estate" not Millbrook housing estate,
the idea is people from Millbrook have work places on their doorsteps
