Conferences and Events

The University of Winchester has an established reputation as a venue for conferences and events. Our commitment to customer service and quality coupled with an extensive range of facilities ensures our reputation both in Winchester and indeed Hampshire remain second to none.

Divided between three campuses, two in Winchester and one in Basingstoke, we can offer nearly 1000 bedrooms, 80 conference rooms, and extensive catering and bar venues.

The King Alfred Campus offers the largest conference and dining facility. With the Stripe Complex, and the brand new University Centre the campus can accommodate conferences for up to 320 delegates. Accommodation, syndicate rooms, IT suites and exhibition space are all available on this site.

The West Downs Campus, provides the majority of our accommodation with over 600 bedrooms, many of which are en-suite. Central to our conference operation,The West Downs Centre is located on this site, providing a contained conference facility this centre benefits from plenary rooms for up 150, 64 en-suite bedrooms, dining for 120 and bar facilities. The centre is a listed building and is a popular venue for weddings and celebrations, as well as conferences.

The Basingstoke Campus, can provide conference facilities for up to 60 delegates, with breakout rooms, and IT suites readily available.

The West Downs Centre

The West Downs Centre is a Grade II listed building renovated by the University in 2001. The renovation itself was ingenious, the Victorian charm and beauty has been retained, at the same time a light and modern feel has also been achieved.

Available within the centre:

• 2 large flat floored plenary rooms seating 80 – 150 delegates
• 12 syndicate rooms – seating 12 – 40 delegates
• 65 single en-suite bedrooms (further bedrooms available on the same site)
• State of the art audio visual facilities
• Dining and bar facilities
• Large open gallery/reception space suitable for small exhibitions

The Centre is a popular wedding venue, and has two rooms which are licensed for civil ceremonies.

King Alfred Campus

The King Alfred Campus is the main University Campus, the site has the highest number of meeting and exhibition spaces available across the university, seating between 5 and 320 delegates. The new University Centre opened September 2007, sits along side the recently renovated Stripe Complex. The Stripe complex is perfect for the larger conferences with a large tiered lecture theatre seating 320 delegates, a large foyer and 2 breakout rooms, which can be utilised as exhibition space if required. On the first floor a flat floored plenary room is also available seating 160 delegates as well as a small board room. All rooms benefit from superb audio visual equipment.

Now the University Centre has opened , the King Alfred Campus facilities have be transformed. The centre provides a brand new reception area, a fantastic new dining room, which will accommodate 300 diners, 3 bars and a gig venue.

The King Alfred’s Campus does not just stop at that we can also offer:

• A further 60 meeting rooms
• IT suites
• Extensive sports facilities
• A chapel

Basingstoke campus

Just 20 minutes by train or car from Winchester the Basingstoke Campus provides conference facilities for up to 60 delegates. Located in the heart of Basingstoke itself, this campus is just 40 minutes from London Waterloo. Facilities include:

• 1 plenary room – seating up to 60 delegates
• Board room – seating 20 delegates
• 1 Computer suite with 20 PC’s
• 4 Breakout rooms

Catering is provided by a local caterer, and the support team at Basingstoke provide a friendly efficient service.

24 hour residential rates from £72.00 - £87.50 per person per 24hrs
