HAMPSHIRE’S Bikesafe training is going from strength to strength with another full house for this month’s course and the next two booked up as well.
Coordinator PC Mick Gear was delighted. He said: “We had another good workshop weekend, with all sorts of bikes and levels of experience, 12 candiates and all had an enjoyable time.”
Among the participants was Andy Simpson from Southampton. He said: “I have been riding motorcycles for 28 years and thought that I was a reasonably competent rider.
“However I also think that perhaps a touch of complacency had crept in.
“So I attended the Bikesafe course at Eastleigh Fire Station on recommendation from a friend.
“I found the morning classroom session very useful and informative with the presenters Mick and Martin being friendly and approachable and although the atmosphere was relaxed it always remained on message.
“The interactive DVD gave all the riders a chance to offer input, to the scenarios posed with all questions and queries being answered.
“The afternoon session, on the roads with PC Chris Pyle was fantastic although it does take a while to get used to having a police motorcyclist in your mirrors when out in front! However after stopping a few times and getting positive feedback from Chris I began to relax and realised that he was there to help me.
“I found my ability to read the road and spot potential hazards in plenty of time to react safely improved, along with my confidence.
“I will take the positive comments and constructive criticism from Chris out on each ride with me and will work to improve my skills and be more aware and hopefully safer when out on my bike.
“Long may this course continue as it is something I would be willing to do again to brush up, but I will investigate further training in the future and will certainly be telling all the bikers I know and particularly the young bikers about the course. £75! Worth every penny!”
The next course with vacancies is in September. Call PC Gear to book on 01962 874600.
