My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece by Annabel Pitcher.

Ten-year-old Jamie can barely remember life before the event five years ago that broke his family apart.

When Rose was killed in a terrorist attack; mum and Jasmine cried, dad drank, cried and filled Jamie’s head with prejudices, but Jamie himself can barely remember who Rose was, let alone mourn over her. His family never understood that he was too young to know Rose.

Everyone told him that everything would get better. Well, they lied.

Five years after Rose’s death, five years of Jamie waiting for everything to be okay, were for nothing. Mum left home, dad rarely goes to work and Jamie’s life is a mess.

Maybe if he, Jas and dad move to the Lake District, away from the constant reminders in London, his life will begin to change.

O.T Book Review By Neelam Ali age 15.

My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece takes a unique outlook on how the events of 9/11 can tear a family apart. Jamie’s innocent attitude towards what happened and the life around him is a refreshing change to the consistently dark accounts of what took place. It brings a new perspective to light on what a family can go through after such a tragic loss.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys emotional and real-life stories or to anyone who just wants to read something different.
