IT was a gruelling 300-mile challenge that took three days to complete and raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Now, ten years since they first set off, a team of intrepid cyclists are set on re-enacting a challenge to ride from Lymington to Land's End.

Eight former Priestlands School pupils and two teachers are reuniting at the end of May to take on the challenge, which will see them ride around 90 miles a day for just over three days.

The team is coming together to mark the tenth anniversary of the trip, which they first completed as students.

Team rider and Echo reporter Will Carson said: "We were reminiscing about our school days and the first Land's End trip we did.

"All of us were shocked at how long ago it was, and in a moment of madness we thought it would be great to have another crack at it, so here we are.

"We're all a lot older, a bit heavier and not quite as agile as we were ten years ago, but we're set on completing the trip.

The challenge has already generated a lot of support, including £400 of donations and sponsorship from Lymington Precision Engineering, Hargroves Cycles, Relentless energy drinks and McVitie's Jaffa Cakes.

All the cash raised will be donated to sailing charity the Jubilee Sailing Trust, which runs adventure sailing trips for able-bodied and disabled people.

As part of their training, the team is hoping to take part in the Lymington 10k race on May 11 before leaving Priestlands School in Lymington bound for Land's End on Friday, May 23.
