Adrian nears goal

| Sailor Adrian Flanagan |
SOLO sailor Adrian Flanagan is less than 1,000 miles from clinching his lifetime's ambition.
THE 47-year-old's attempt to become the first person to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe via the Russian arctic has so far taken two years - far outstripping his original estimate of 300 days.
His epic voyage has been dogged with major setbacks since he left Hamble in 2006.
At the end of last month he set sail in his 40ft stainless yacht Barrabas from Mehamn in northern Norway.
He now has his sights firmly set on the finishing line at Hamble's Royal Southern Yacht Club.
In his latest dispatch he says: "I am now less than 1,000 miles from home. It seems like eternity.
"I sleep as much as possible and try not to let my excitement get the better of me."
