A teenage girl who stole a £70,000 Bentley and was driving it when it crashed into a tree and flipped on to its roof has been locked up.

The 17-year-old from Holbury, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was part of a gang of three who stole the luxury car from a house in the New Forest.

Southampton Youth Court heard the teenager and another 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, had been drinking before they came across the Bentley Continental in a driveway in Parsonage Barn Lane, Ringwood.

The defendant stole the car keys from the house. The gang also pinched a wallet, mobile phone and laptop.

She then took the car on a high speed driver through the Forest, the court heard.

Technology fitted in the vehicle enabled police to track it, which resulted in a high-speed chase involving three police cars in the early hours of April 15.

The pursuit only came to an end when the joy rider lost control of the powerful car on a bend on the A35 at Holmsley Hill ploughing into a tree.

The force of the impact broke the tree in half and caused the vehicle to land on its roof, and the pursuing police car then hit the tree lying in the road, injuring the driver and a female police officer.

Despite their injuries the officers raced to the Bentley to pull the youths from the wreckage.

The second police car smashed into the back of the first and the third careered off the road.

Damage to the police cars topped £30,000.

The 17-year-old driver pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without consent and dangerous driving, burglary and driving without a licence or insurance.

She was handed a six-month detention and training order.

The other 17-year-old girl from Bransgore was earlier sentenced to a four-month detention and training order after she pleaded guilty to burglary and aggravated vehicle taking.

A 16-year-old boy from New Milton pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods, allowing himself to be carried in a vehicle that was taken without consent, and driving without a licence or insurance.

He was sentenced to a 12-month supervision order and a three-month curfew.

Heck if you only get 6 months for breaking and entering and GTA, I might consider a career out of it.

I agree with Wewullywinky though. The cops should've watched the sods burn to death and maybe throw in a bit of petrol to make sure they were nice and toasty. No sympathy for scum like this, none what so ever, because they just see their puny sentences as a badge of £ucking honour.

It is clear from the sentence handed down to them that they are unlikely to have been involved in anything like this incident before.

My guess is that it was decided to give those involved ‘a last chance’. By sending them to a youth custody centre, it would be hoped that they would not like being held there and therefore prevent them from re-offending.

And before anyone comments on the ‘cushy’ life inside: For those of you who have not been inside a youth detention facility or prison, they are not nice places. Yes, they have access to televisions, playstations, telephones, and other games. But the rules allow for these to be removed from them very quickly. Then they are locked in their room/cell for 23 hours a day. Only coming out long enough for half an hour ‘association’ and to have a shower/collect you meals.

What does attract people to these places, is the ‘I’ve been there and it was easy’ comments, and the fact that they have no responsibility. They do not have to cook, clean or anything else. If they choose to be locked in their rooms/cells 23 hours a day, then everything is done for them. It’s called easy street.

Anyway, let’s hope these kids (as that is what they are) learn from this and go on to change they ways.

Isn't this the sort of driving that would normally end up with a charge of 'Driving without due care and attention' ? I can almost hear a sanctimonious traffic cop telling a civilian that they should drive according to the conditions and be prepared for any eventuality that they may be faced with.

Those police are supposed to be trained in pursuit driving. Sounds like Dukes of hazard driving to me. The bentley was fitted with a tracker so there was no need for any high speed. Why were there 3 police cars folowing each other on the same stretch of road? Because it was a bentley thats why. If it had been my mondeo it would not have even got a response let alone a court sentence.

These kids know they can get away with this kind of behaviour, they should be made to pay the insurance companies back, over thier lifetime, if they are made to do the street sweeping and picking up litter or some other community work for which they would recieve money, that is taken to pay off the debt. even if they get social security, somewhere there has to be a consequence.

Y dnt the police pay 4 damaging their cars, hants says...

There is no mention of discipline concerning the police drivers,as the Bentley could be electronically tracked the police did not have to follow the Bentley so closely and if they were able to pull up within the distance that they could see to be clear on their own side of the road then no damage or collision would have taken place to the police cars.It seems tax payers and not the police drivers have to pay for the £30,000 damage they caused. These cars would also be out of service until repaired leaving less resources available to the public.

They had been drinking, had no license and were speeding... the police were just trying to stop the vehicle as quickly as possible before it ploughed into an oncoming car or crashed.

Personally if I was driving around there and there was a speeding Bentley with drunk teenagers driving it I would expect the police to stop it as soon as possible. It's just a shame they weren't fined the full amount between them.

Very easy to blame police for all this.
the car had a tracker so they knew where it was.
why 3 police cars, one would have done.
Police not driving with care and attention,
only one car hit the tree, so the other 2 which i pay 180pound a year in police poll tax for could have been doing some worthwhile work.
Yes the people who stole it got off very lightly but is this to take attention from the very poor police management who should also be bought to book in incurring 100,000 pounds worth of damage to our property ( we do pay for police cars) including the chaps 70000 bently which may not have been destroyed, if it had not been chased. All in all a right mess up by the police who should be bought to book. and charged.

She has lost all claims to anonyminity when she committed the crime. What message is this sending out to young people? It is Ok to break in to someone's house, steal their car and wallet, mobile phone and laptop, drive without insurance or a licence? It is ridiculous, she should have been sent to an adult jail for at least three years. Who is the justice system protecting - it is certainly not the owner of the car.
