Ipswich keen to re-sign Saints keeper Davis

IPSWICH Town are keen to bring Saints keeper Kelvin Davis back to Portman Road - if they don't sign ex-Saints loanee Richard Wright.

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has admitted Davis is on his radar if Wright can't be tempted back to Ipswich from West Ham.

"Kelvin is on our list of keepers," said ex-Dell midfielder Magilton.

"He is another who enjoyed the most successful spell of his career whilst at our football club.

"Kelvin has had a few years where things have not gone as well as he would have hoped but I know him and I know that through games and confidence in an environment he knows and in a place where he feels secure I'm sure his goalkeeping ability would flourish.

"He is on our list of possibles to bring back to this football club."

Davis has been first choice keeper for most of his two seasons at Saints following a £900,000 move from Sunderland in the summer of 2006.

He did lose his place temporarily to Bartosz Bialkowski towards the end of the 2006/07 season following a suspension.

And Nigel Pearson preferred loanee Wright to Davis at the end of last season after the latter had recovered from injury.

Davis faces competition for his place at St Mary's from Bialkowski, recent signing Tommy Forecast and Michael Poke.

It would be a loss to the club if we can't replace him - I don't think any of the other keepers are ready for first team action yet.

I've heard Poke might be going out on a season-long loan anyway. And why exactly do we have so many keepers?? Did the club know Kelvin might be moving on when they brought in Forecast?

And if Ipswich can't sign Wright, could we?? Wages might be an issue but if he's only valued at £500,000 why not look into it at least? He was magnificent for us last season and really helped tighten up at the back. Given the lack of defenders we currently have, he might be just what we need this season.......

TBF to Kelvin, he hasn't been helped by the amateurs in front of him...that was another issue from the Burley days.

He can be most realistically described as a 'shot-stopper' - bit like Paul Jones, can be brilliant one minute, then have you questioning his parentage the next.

I guess the end could justify the means - offload Stern John (as is expected as Rasiak isn't likely to go) pot the cash from both sales (with Skacel money)....then bring in Chris Baird on loan and Richard Wright (assuming wages can be agreed).

See, it's easy to run a football club isn't it?!

BTW, when are we signing a Dutch player? Jaap Stam still playing?

This looks like good buisness as we already have Forecast as his replacement. However bring in Baird and Harte/Thatcher and then we have a real solid looking team.

It was reported a week or so ago in the papers that Davis would be going to Ipswich & we were bringing in Forecast as our number one.

I'm hoping that the reason Ipswich are having problems signing Wright is because he wants to come to Saints, knowing that they'll move for Davis, making room for him to move to us. (Well that's what I hope is the case - unlikely I know.) It's most likely that Davis will go & Forecast will beacome No1 as was reported, after all why would he switch to come & warm our bench when he could be warming the bench at Spurs & on probably more money.

If Skacel & Safri are finally sold, I would love to see us move for Richard Wright & Chris Baird.

Everybody seems to be building a dreamteam, the reality is we're pretty skint, if we get shot of Davis, which won't be a massive loss, we'll have to make do with what's left. Bart should be given an extended run-out as he needs to build his confidence up after a couple of shockers last season, can't understand how both he and Saga started so positively and overnight turned into liabilities.
We've still got the makings of a pretty useful squad, all we need is a bit of self belief and this season could offer something special.

Where did the Chris Baird rumour come from? As for Richard Wright, I think we would all like to see him back. Davis is a tad temperamental if you ask me and like Kate said with the lack of defenders we don't need someone between the sticks flipping out now and again. But on the plus point, Davis is still ours and I hope he goes on to have a brilliant season if he plays as our no1.

My guess is if we can get a transfer fee for Davis we'd take it. Then get Wright back on loan for the season from Westham with a call back if they get any injuries. That would suit both parties ensuring the he remains fit and sharp and ready to be called upon.
It would also give Saints time to get Forecast ready for first team action and if Wright had to go I'm sure he would step up if he's as good as he's been quoted to be.

The Chris Baird rumour's being doing the rounds for a couple of weeks. Not sure how much truth there is to it. I think it was reported in the papers that Fulham are willing to sell him for a fraction of the price we sold him for. Also, according to the saintstrust website Jan Poorvliet said we are close to bringing in a right back. I think briging in Wright & Baird (even if it is on season long loans) are very possible, but there's no hard evidence to say any of this will actually happen. I think we've made enough cut backs & with Safri & possibly Skacel, Davis & Dyer off, I don't see why deals for them couldn't be made. There's two things all Saints fans are aware of & that's Davis is inconsistant & we need more full backs. Here's hoping.

Yes a lot less that Davis, Prem experience, which match was that then? Davis was Sunderland's no 1 the last time they went up. Forecast, warmed the bench a few times last season.

Jumped ship, he got sold for 3 million, to raise money, which SFC badly needed. Remember Baird was player of the year, or did you forget that to?

A full strength Portsmouth side - slightly wishful thinking. A different team in each half and the following eight current international plyers did not even get onto the pitch: G.Johnson, Portsmouth and England, L. Diarra, Portsmouth and France, Papa Diop Portsmouth and Senegal, N. Krancjar Portsmouht and Croatia, N. Kanu Portsmouth and Nigeria, J. Utaka Portsmouth and Nigeria, H. Hreidarsson Portsmouth and Iceland and P. Crouch Portsmouth and England.

Perhaps DevonSaint is so out of touch that he hasn't realised that Portsmouth have a somewhat better team than SFC. I fear Saints are in for another year of struggle against relegation unless they get a strong squad of experienced players able to cope with the fierce challenges that is characteristic of the Champioship League. A team of youngsters, however skilled, will find it difficult, if not impossible, against a host of 'old timers' with vast experience who maybe past their prime but can still dish out the hard stuff when needed.

Now that Lowe and Wilde are back the Club look professional again, the dead wood of players have been got rid of,and the introduction of the Dutch masters will see the Saints do very very well in the championship this year, and being a ex-professional army man and being positive, may I say promotion.

Davis can leave - for all I care! ITFC will be one of our rivals for promotion this season and with KD in goal for them, it'd give us a better chance!! This new lad, Forecast, is pretty handy - I've heard good things from a Spurs mate at work - they had him pencilled in as a future England player and he probably actually off-set Bale's transfer cost to the tune of around £1.5M. BUT as kelvin may be going to ipswich maybe saints are going to have a bigger advantage without that sod if that's the correct term in goal. Maybe ipswich are about bto help their rivals and we may not concede as many.
