Burglar may have lit fire to cover tracks

A BURGLAR is thought to have set fire to a bedroom in order to cover his tracks after entering a Winchester home.

Firefighters were called to West Hill Park, Fulflood, Winchester, at about 7.40pm on Tuesday when the family returned.

Watch manager Chris Roper, of Winchester fire station, said: "The fire service's arson task force dog team was called in to investigate.

"There was deliberate ignition of the bedding by a naked light.

"The family was out at the time and came home to find the fire. The bedroom was completely destroyed. It was probably started some time in the afternoon."

The family is believed to have lost a quantity of money and gold in the raid.
