SAINTS striker Marek Saganowski has joined Danish Superliga champions Aalborg BK on loan until the end of December.

The Polish forward, who played for his country in this summer's European Championships, will link up with the northern Danish club, which is managed by former Arsenal boss Bruce Rioch.

Saganowski has been used sparingly in Jan Poortvliet's pre-season programme and is one of a number of players the club were thought to be keen on removing from its wage bill.

Saints director Andrew Cowen said: "We wish Marek all the best during his time in Denmark and hopefully he will do well for AaB."

It never seemed to happen for him last season. Clearly no other club has serious interest to buy even with a reasonable performance at Euro 08.

It's simple - Saga stopped putting the effort in when he got his contract.

Wonder if he was one of the players Rupert Lowe was on about last week - 'football mercenaries'?

I blame George Burley - Jan Poortvliet has already shown Burley up for the management fraud he was......

Stopped putting in effort? Maybe so under Burley last season - or maybe just badly managed - but he was far from alone. Check his effort and his passion for Saints at the end of last season before you slag him off completely. I am guessing you did not see his reaction when Lallana scored at W Brom, or his own reaction on the last day

Agreed he wasn't the only one who lacked effort - but they all suddenly found their passion with one game to go....

Shame most couldn't be bothered the rest of the time eh?

We are talking about PROFESSIONALS here - not your average guy in park football.

They all get paid very well from the money that WE put into the club, therefore it is our right to question their committment to the cause.

I'm more than happy to see the back of Saga, Skacel and Rasiak if they can't pull their fingers out...

If Skacel wanted to play football he would have taken Ipswich's offer of £6k per week.

Instead, he'll be sat in the stands collecting approx £10k, according to TSF....

I dont disagree with most of what you say. I just dont put Saga in the same bracket as the others. And lets not forget that Rasiak, scoring freely in this league, and our top scorer at the time, was left out repeatedly by Burley with no obvious reason, so its no surprise he got fed up and asked for a move.

A decent manager can get the best of most players. A poor manager can disillusion most

good more dead wood gone. Since they started stripping away the heart of the old team i can't say i'm too sad to see any of them go. Which makes you realise how poor our team had gotten. Still can't understand why weve gone out and got otten though and i would llove somebody to please explain how we pulled off the Schinderin signing he looks like a real prospect.

I think it started to fall apart for Saga when Kenwyne left - he seemed to play really well with him and I guess Burley knew he wouldn't do so well with BWP or Rasiak so maybe that's why he left him out.

Who knows but best of luck to Saga - hopefully he does well at his new club and they can buy him for a profit in January.

Some of you really do speak rubbish. How can you make such accusations at one player. The WHOLE team lacked effort which was mainly because of their poor fitness. All down to that drunk Burley. As for Saga and any other half decent striker you need a long and consistent run in the team to become match sharp. He showed us last season what he can do when he is given it. Let’s not forget he scored a crucial goal in the last game of the season. If anyone is looking for someone who shows consistent no effort then WRIGHT-PHILLIPS is your man. Complete waste of space. Got a start almost every week last season. Gd luck Saga, I reckon we might miss you when the going gets tough for these youngsters.

Saga should only ever have been given a rolling contract for 6 months, he might then have continued the commitment he showed for his first half dozen games when he was on trial with us.
Yet another player who had a complete change of attitude once he had a contract.
Modern football is littered with these types, I would have kicked the up the backside and showed them who was boss.

Saga doesn't fit in with the new management style and one that the board still need to sell along with others high salaries; - Skacel, Rasiak; John and Kelvin Davis if anyone will make a decent offer otherwise we will have to sell more youngsters.
We still need a couple of players with extra height and physical presence for this division.
Also can we afford two wide wingers at the expense of central midfield ? Next 2 or 3 games will show our new Dutch coaches how tough this division is with little referee protection.
Still the young players now have a great chance to show what Burley ignored. Finishing clear of relegation zone will be a good season considering our finicial position.
Any news of new investment ??

I remember when we bought him and i said to a mate, that's him over for us. I just had this gut feeling we got him at his peak on loan and he got complacent. He looked awful last year. So i'm not dissapointed to see him off and just shows what a waste of money Saints have wasted.

Also imagine any other job if you did not perform at the levels your wage demands or expected of you. You would either get a pay decrease or contract terminated. Wish this would happen more with under performing Sport stars.

Looking forward to the new season, that blind optimism, can't beat it :) COYR

Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping Cristiano Ronaldo will sign a new contract and acknowledges the importance of Manchester United hanging on to the winger.

Portugal international Ronaldo revealed in an interview earlier this week that he would be staying at Old Trafford this season, following weeks of speculation regarding a move to Real Madrid.

He still holds a dream to play for the Spanish champions, but United boss Ferguson believes the 23-year-old may never want to leave his current club.

I agree with you Rich. Saga proved he was a goalscorer the season before last. It was his goals that got us into the playoffs. As was Burleys custom, he then dropped the guy for the start of the next season and that was that. He was never given a run of games, so how can anyone be critical? And why the hell is Andrew Cowan making comments now. You want to save money, cut the fat out of the Boardroom. I can't fathom laying oiff the kitman but seeing a need for 2 Chairman. What a farce! Anyway, let's put all that aside and cheer the lads on starting tomorrow. It'll be fantastic to have Killer back - if he stays fit he'll be an immense influence.

They have been patching up the paintwork since last summer. They are grinding off the rust the whole roof which now shows the patches you are talking about. Painting will commence sooner rather than later.

You obviously missed the Bristol Rovers game – he didn't want to know.

I, like many, thought Saga was a Premier League player during his first few games.

That's what disappoints so much.

As with many others, he showed he was a class player, but only when he wanted to.

When players like Jermaine Wright give 100% without the necessary quality to go with it, it infuriates to see obviously gifted players not giving their best and waiting for things to happen.

You can blame GB for dropping him, but not taking away his fighting spirit.

Le Tiss got dropped by Branfoot, but came back to prove a point, SAGA didn't (save for one or two games).

On the basis of the promise shown season before last I'd have still given him the benefit of the doubt for the start of the season though, especially as his style suits flowing football, but finances I guess dictate we couldn't do that.

Shame to see him go as I like the guy and on his day he's class, but, like Viafara, all too irregularly for me.

On the plus side, we have very few players left who we can seriously slag off as over paid!

Face it Saga is a right c**t he only played well to gain a highly paid contract with us as he was in the reverses at another lowly european side with the same couldn't care less attitude before we came in for him.

Yes he has scored some important goals for us but he just doesn't really care about the club, he looks as though he'd fall asleep on the pitch sometimes when he played last season, but in the world cup he looked twice the player we have seen, the question is why???.

Personally I hope he leaves in January along with all the other waste of space players who are just taking the money every week and bleeding our club dry.

Some of our new youthful players show them up for the mercenary footballers they really are and they are a disgrace to any club who has the misfortune to employ them as they think ££££ and thats it.

Have a look at the teams playing in the Olympics. There are a couple of Ozzie youngsters that could be worth a look. Better buying under 21 year olds with passion than over the hill or journey men that are only concerned with the money. The Argie team is worth $80m.. The Aussie team, $1.7... Other teams would be in a similar situation. LOOK TOWARDS THE FUTURE. Supplement the great young kids we have in our system with others.

I understand why some people think Saga is a mercenary, but I don't believe that for one simple reason - in his early 20's he was involved in a severe car crash which nearly killed him.

I very much doubt that he has ever forgotten that and so he more than most would appreciate every minute spent on the park.

That said, I have no doubt he is on big wages and we cannot afford to keep him, John and Rasiak (alhough it is crucial that we keep at least one).

He did a job for us and I have no bad feelings towards the man. We have had worse players at the club that's for sure....

The Poles are not leaving Southampton Mathew, they are being turned into planks, and then being picked to play for Saints.
Aussie footballers have not made the same impact in England as footballers from other developing and third world countries have. I guess that, giving it another 20 or 30 years, you may produce some world class players.
