THE purring sound of powerful supercars formed the centrepiece for a roaring Bank Holiday event in the New Forest.
Families were given the chance to hear the multi-cylinder engines of a number of the National Motor Museum's most prestigious vehicles.
Among the cars put through their paces in the Beaulieu arena were the 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost and the 1930 Blower Bentley Le Mans replica.
Visitors also heard the growl of the 7.4 litre Cosworth DFV powered Lotus 49 F1, driven to championship glory by Graham Hill.
A number of modern cars made up the display, which was part of a summer of events at the museum.

Thank you Echo for informing us after the event.

Ok, sometimes they'll report "event to happen next week"-type stories, but it's hardly shrewd to rely on a newspaper for your forward planning!
Thank you Echo for informing us after the event.

Not wanting to slate beaulieu but the haynes motor museum at Sparkford north of yeovil on the A303 is a much better visit! not so close but a great outlay of decent cars, bikes etc. And if you are ever in Glasgow, the FREE Glasgow transport museum is very good.
