A CAMPER was taken to hospital after a caravan caught fire in the New Forest last night.

Eleven firefighters were called out to tackle the blaze at the Setthorns campsite between Brockenhurst and New Milton, at about 2am.

The occupant of the caravan, a man aged about 30, was taken to hospital suffering from burns to his arms, legs and feet, an ambulance spokesman said.

The fire detsroyed the caravan and awning and spread to a nearby Peugeot car.

There were also fears gas cyclinders could have exploded.

Police were due to investigate the scene of the fire this morning but a spokesman said it did not appear to be suspicious.

I agree spending hours in an airport - not good, better sitting behind some numpty in his mobile digs, doing twenty five mph, along with the other family that are following - bet they are from the same street !

I was really sorry to read about this man's bad luck and also the sad loss of his pet dog. I am also a fellow camper/caravanner and am well aware of the risks involved as caravans/tents are so inflammable. I wish him all the best.

I was shocked to hear about the caravanning holiday that went so wrong. I understand that the fire brigade were called out at about 2am and, knowing the campsite well, I can not believe that the guy involved was doing anything other than sleeping at that time.
I hope he gets better soon and I am very sorry to hear that he lost his dog in this tragedy.
