SAINTS legend Mick Channon could be back home by the weekend as he continues his recovery after a horror car crash.

The 59-year-old was a passenger in a silver Mercedes, driven by close friend and racing agent Tim Corby, when it left the carriageway of the M1 in Leicestershire.

Mr Corby, 63, died at the scene, while Mr Channon and his youngest son Jack, 15, needed hospital treatment.

Jack, who was described as "battered and bruised" following the accident last Wednesday, was discharged from the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham, yesterday morning and was due to return home.

Mr Channon, a successful racehorse trainer and ex-England footballer, was transferred from the QMC to the private Park Hospital, in Nottingham, on Monday.

Michael Channon told the Daily Echo that his dad, who lifted the FA Cup with Saints in 1976, hoped to be back home by the weekend.

He said: "We just want him to rest and stop worrying about the rest of us. I don't think for the first few days he was aware of how serious it was for himself.

"He's already thinking about getting back to the office. We have told him we will talk about it if he rests for at least two days.

"Hopefully we will have him back by the start of next week, or maybe even the weekend.

"He's in good form and he said to me it's just time and that's the only thing that's going to mend it."

As a result of the crash, Mr Channon, whose stables are in West Ilsley, Newbury, suffered a broken arm, broken ribs, fractured jaw and punctured lung.

Surgeons successfully wired his jaw last week.

Michael, a video producer, said it was a terrifying moment when he heard of the crash.

"It was like one of those moments out of Casualty, with the policeman walking up the driveway," he said.

"You just don't think it will ever happen to you.

"It makes you realise that life is fragile at times and you have just got to appreciate every day, even the bad ones."

Michael added that the Channon family had been overwhelmed by the generous response following the accident.

He thanked everyone who had offered their support to the Channon and Corby families, including staff at the stables and his grandparents Avril and Reg Medcroft, of Thornhill.

"The response from people has just been staggering," he said.

"There have been so many cards, flowers and lovely phone calls and we just have to thank everyone."

Mick Channon is a racehorse trainer.

This means that he not only trains race horses, but also watches horse racing, with many, if not most, take place when football is being played.

This could well be why Mick is not a regular at St Mary's.

Anyone with a little intelligence would have been aware of this, so I have given the explanation for the one who has not got that little intelligence.

Not content with your sick post when Mick was injured, I note you have to have another 'pop' at him.

So very sad.

Total agreement. A very sad post from Denzil. Why don't you find better things to do Denzil rather than be a complete unfunny prat?

I notice the with a smile on my face that artful dodger is dishing out intelligence advice again. He has been shown for the idiot he is on numerous occasions now, namely by happy gilmore.

Leave the advice on intelligence alone artful.
You only look more stupid.

Heres your last attempt at looking intelligent, that back fired on you.

Artful Dodger
you should also use a capital letter 'I' for the personal pronoun - not once, but twice.

I note that you are so ashamed of where you live, that you do not add your location after your 'name'. It is abundantly clear that your knowledge of Millbrook is on a par with you command of the written English. It is quite common for people, when they have lost an argument, or try to bluster their way through a subject of which they have limited knowledge, that they resort to abuse and name calling. I note that, once again, that is what you resort to. You will note that I do not called you names, or accused you of living in a rat infested slum or any of the other petty, childish things that you have claimed about the residents of Millbrook. I imagine that the reason must be because I am an adult, and you are an adolescent who likes to talk tough from behind a computer screen. If the country's future depends on persons like you, then we certainly have a tough time ahead.

Then gilmore said

Happy Gilmore
Please please, little Millbrook scum, if you attempt sarcasm, using the English language as a weapon or tool, at least have the intelligence to wield it, you sad pathetic little Millbrook filth.

Let me show why, for your grotty little benefit;

"on a par with you command of the written English".

I think you meant, your !

"You will note that I do not called you names".

I think you meant, call !

"If the country's future depends on persons like you".

Well, "persons" could be used in certain contexts, of a sentence, so you may have got away with that one. The trouble is fartful, due the syntax of your post and previous dribblings of yours, i think it's safe to say, you failed again.

I think we can see a pattern here.

You pull me up for not using a capital, and then make errors in your post.

You then go on to use abuse, then cry foul, because the low blow is returned.

You then harp on about me losing an arguement, because i use abuse (again, exactly like you) and fail to remember your previous dribble.

Gilmore could have also found mistakes in other parts of your post, but hey, i think we get the picture.

I have spent an enjoyable, but tiring day, with a precocious granddaughter who, even when wrong, insisted she was right and was always determined to have the last word.

Now I can relax, which means I will not be continuing a dialogue with Happy Gilmore aka artful is not artful, not so artful, butty man, c or whatever name takes his/her fancy.

I have never accused him/her of losing an arguement! An argument maybe, but never an arguement.
