Schools take up robot wars challenge

HAMPSHIRE pupils have been battling in a robot wars.
Teams from 20 schools competed in the First Lego League (FFL) tournament at science centre Intech, in Winchester.
They included Perins School in Alresford, Swanmore College of Technology and the Quilley School of Engineering, Eastleigh.
The teams, made up of nine to 16-year-olds, had to design and programme a Lego Mindstorms robot and use it to solve problems.
They were judged on presentation, research skills, teamwork and their ability to build and programme the robot.
It was the first of 18 regional competitions taking place across the country until January.
The winner - Swanmore College - goes on to the final to be held in Loughborough on January 26, and the UK champion will then compete in the world final in St Louis, USA in April.
