A FLAGSHIP Southampton academy is to merge on to a single site two years early because of a drop in pupil numbers, the Daily Echo can reveal.
Shifting to a single site will mean jobs are cut at the city’s Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill.
But last night bosses would not say how many staff could be made redundant.
The cost-cutting move comes in response to lower student numbers, but academy chiefs insist it will make it easier for pupils and teachers currently working on sites a mile apart.

Hulla Baloo - Maybe you should brush up on your punctuation before you start pointing out other people's mistakes. You don't need the comma in your sentence.

Its funny that they say it WILL be built on a new site. Currently there is massive opposition to this, as it is on public open space at four acres. This just shows that Oasis are only interested in the Oaklands site to build houses on, and NOT about the education of children. My suggestion, do everything you can to fight this. Oasis may be a church run organisation but they seem to be run by money mad businessmen and not child concerned educators which is what we want for our children!

When I was at school the results dipped drastically because of internal strife (think Rupert Lowe at the helm) but with a change in management they soon recovered. Theres only so far you can go with individualism. You might as well say, well lets cut our spending on education to a bare minimum and the pupils will get on if they want to.
my daughter goes to the grove park site and is doing brilliantly, she is a hardworking child and likes school, her grades have improved since going there, i think if a child wants to learn they will no matter what the school is like, the teachers there are helpful and listen to her and ive never had any problems speaking to a certain teacher, i think it just depends on the child as to whether or not they get on at the school or not!

there are at least 4 schools in southampton that had worse exam results than oasis, what im saying is if there are good teachers in schools and pupils willing to learn then it will work, too many parents dont discipline their children and end up with naughty kids who disrupt others this was a problem even when i was at school, the school has improved considerably since mr toland took over and i think people need to give the school a chance, chamberlayne and woodlands are much worse schools but i dont hear anybody harping on about them??!!

I trust the English grammar being taught to your child, will be better than your own.

The best way forward for Southampton is to have high achieving 'super schools' like Wildern, Romsey, Mountbatten and Kings. At the moment only Bitterne Park is anywhere close to getting there. Consider also that Oasis Lordshill is competing with Redbridge, Regents Park and Upper Shirley High for pupils.
Currently Southampton schools are not meeting the needs of high achieving pupils, I hope with a change of Government more emphasis should be placed on the able.

Hi Southy,
Just wanted to catch up on our conversation from yesterday when I asked you why you hadn't placed a bet on your statement about our new government failing within a year. I quote "it will collapse before the end of the year".
You see everybody, Southy insists that everything he says is correct, so I just wanted to see if he could back his words up with some actions.
Southy, you said the odds of this bet were rubbish - but surely if you know you are going to be right then you will win. Even if the odds are 1/1, you'll still win 100 squid for every 100 squid you bet on it.
No brainer????
You also questioned why I suggested that you move out of Redbridge with all your money (which you will win from your bet). Well, I can't see any reason why you would want to stay. It's not exactly Poole Harbour is it!

Oasis Academy Mayfield ( woolston school merged with grove) I left the school last summer, and was studying for my exams while the schools merged. I agree that the level of teaching was better when it was woolston, and the merge was disruptive, but i do however believe the teachers did try their hardest with my year group. Sure i misbehaved alot and so did all of my friends, but that was because we knew we could get away with it, we got away with alot without punishment so when we were bored, we'd misbehave. The teachers did all persist with encouraging us to do well and helping us with extra revision sessions and they tried to not disrupt our learning and i still managed to come out of a **** school with good grades, you can't just blame the school however poor it may be it's also down to the kids and their efforts. Although, that is a terrible school.
