WE have broken every record in the book! That was the delighted assessment of this year’s GSCE students from Woodlands Community School in Southampton by proud head teacher Joanna Anslow.
This year saw the benchmark five A* to C grade rise by eight per cent while the number of students achieving five A to C grades rocketed by 19 percentage points to 59 per cent.
Mrs Anslow said the results are in part down to tracking individual students’ performance and a mentoring programme, as well as staff opening the Minstead Avenue school on Saturday mornings for extra maths and English sessions.
Mrs Anslow said: “We are just so proud of everyone’s achievements.
This has been a recordbreaking year in every way for Woodlands and we are delighted with the improve-ments we have made.
“It is a real reflection of the hard work of both staff and pupils.”
Individual success stories included Perry Campion who along with half a dozen A grades also achieved two A*s in PE and English literature and also a B grade in an extra A/S level in critical thinking.
Dylan Dibben also achieved six As, two Bs and two Cs while also gaining a higher qualification in engineering he studied at Sparsholt College.
