STUDENTS at a Hampshire university are set to be bowled over by a ground-breaking deal which could give them unique opportunities to boost their career prospects.

A partnership between Southampton Solent University and The Rose Bowl will see undergraduates gain valuable work experience at a venue renowned for national and international cricket and for arena-scale music concerts, particularly in areas of event management, sports journalism and outside broadcast.

The home of Hampshire Cricket will also take advantage of students equipped with the latest media tools and techniques for freelance live marketing and PR initiatives.

The deal, which builds on the existing close relationship between the organisations, will also see better sharing of facilities, especially audio-visual equipment, to improve the quality of coverage of matches and events held at The Rose Bowl.

Cricket bosses will also gain a city-based box office in the university’s Sir James Matthews building, while the facilities at Solent’s sports science department will be opened up, and the Rose Bowl’s indoor cricket school could be developed for commercial and educational use.

University staff, students and graduates will also be given discount opportunities to attend cricket matches and events at the Rose Bowl.

Rose Bowl chairman Rod Bransgrove said: “We are delighted to be signing this Accord with Southampton Solent University.”
