Short Evening Course - 'The Gods of Thebes'
The Southampton Ancient Egypt Society are pleased to present a short evening course by Hilary Wilson: 'The Gods of Thebes'.

From the 12th Dynasty onwards, Amun, the principal god worshipped at the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes, was recognised as the patron of royalty, eventually being known as ‘King of the Gods’. But how did Amun, a minor cosmic deity from Hermopolis, become the pre-eminent state god of Egypt? In this five-week informal evening class we will explore the attributes, iconography and mythology of Amun and the Theban family of deities, including the rituals and festivals celebrated in their temples and their association with other Egyptian gods.

Hilary Wilson is the Chairman and founder of the Southampton Ancient Egypt Society, author and regular speaker to the Society.

Classes will be on five consecutive Friday evenings, 7:30 - 9:00pm starting on 28 April 2017.

No previous experience is necessary.
