THE Shipwrights Way is a new longdistance route, which runs across the South Downs National Park in East Hampshire and ends at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard.

In previous weeks we have featured the first two stages of the route. Stage three is two miles long and runs from Cradle Hill to Linford. Stage four of the route is not yet open.

The route’s creators are working with the MOD to extend the route a further mile into Lindford and Bordon.

The first half-mile is along a lane (without pavements) and the remainder is on good, undulating sandy tracks.

There are four bridle gates, which each open to around five feet width.

Take care at the sharp bend at the start of this section and along the lane; be aware that although it is a track you may occasionally see motorcycles on Cradle Lane.

This section starts near Headley Park Hotel, which offers refreshments and meals.

It finishes on the outskirts of Bordon, which has the full range of facilities you would expect from a small town.

The Shipwrights Way project is a partnership between East Hampshire District Council, Hampshire County Council, South Downs National Park Authority and the Forestry Commission.
