A DOG charity has had a major cash boost after Hampshire residents raised thousands of pounds at a fundraising event.

Scores of dog lovers attended a cream tea event in the rural Holywell Estate in Swanmore to support Canine Partners.

The charity offers people with disabilities access to an assistance dog and the event raised more than £3,000.

Event organiser, Ali Bailey said: “The fact we have raised more than £3,200 really is the icing on the cake.

“The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was great and everyone enjoyed themselves – including the Canine Partners puppies and dogs who attended. It was our best cream tea to date.

“The money will enable Canine Partners to change the lives of more people with disabilities through their amazing assistance dogs.

“I am really proud to be part of a fantastic team of volunteers who took the time to help with this event and gave 110 per cent on the day.”

Nicola Daniel, who has multiple sclerosis, gave a speech at the event about how she has become more independent and confident since having canine partner Nutmeg.

She said: “I used to say I was in a room full of people and still lonely, but now that is never the case because I always have Nutmeg.”
