The television set has gone through many changes in the past - but few bigger than the introduction of colour.
Fifty years ago to the day, the first colour transmission on UK television was broadcast on BBC Two.
The Wimbledon Tennis Championships on July 1, 1967, made history when it was viewed in colour on just a handful of compatible colour televisions. It wasn’t until 1977 when the sales of colour TV licences outnumbered the call for black and white.
New figures from TV Licensing show more than 8,000 UK homes still only have a black and white license – 73 of those being from Hampshire.
