Primroses were being sold a century ago this week in Winchester to provide funds for supplying lint and bandages for the wounded in Serbia.
It was reported that the much-needed medical supplies were to be taken out shortly by Mrs Farnam, of Weeke Manor, who was undertaking hospital work with Princess Alexis Kara-Georgevitch.
This Southampton Pictorial image of the time showed Miss Doris Edmeades (the daughter of the Mayor of Winchester), Miss Primrose Murray and Miss Bateson all pictured doing their bit with their baskets round their neck containing the primroses they were selling to the people of the city.
