EVACUEES who had to flee their homes during the Second World War are being invited to a reunion in Hampshire on Saturday.

As young children, evacuees where shipped off across the country and even around the world to Canada try and keep them safe from the horrors of the war.

Now each year, evacuees from across Britain are invited to the reunion event in Southampton to share their experiences of living away from home during war as well as enjoy lunch and receive a group photo.

Expected to attend this year are evacuees who where onboard SS Volendam which was torpedoed as it sailed from Liverpool to Canada in 1940.

The meeting takes place this Saturday at the Holy Trinity Church in Millbrook from 11am to 4pm.

Anyone who was an evacuee is invited.

There is a small cost of £5 and those who are interested should call 01202 894522.
