A woman has launched an appeal to find out about her great uncle’s fiancée, who disappeared after he was killed fighting in the First World War.
Maureen Duckworth, who lives in Gosport, does not know the name of the mystery woman, only possessing a picture of her taken with relative Robert Cox.
Robert served in the Royal Marine Light Infantry and was killed in France on August 26, 1918.
Maureen’s family say his fiancée then vanished from their lives.
“I’m hopeful that someone may recognise her,” she said. “She may have gone on to marry some else, I don’t know.
“I am very curious to know her name and where she came from – I firmly believe she was from Hampshire.”
Anyone who recognises the woman in the picture is asked to call 023 9258 9729.
