FOUND deep in the Daily Echo archives was a dusty folder containing pictures of steam engines from the 1970s.

The images on these pages show the pictures it contained.

On his way to open Pilley Scout fete on June 5, 1972, John Perkins stopped in at the Fleur-de-Lis pub for some refreshments.

Here he was pictured with the steam roller’s owners, Mr and Mrs Ken Honeybun, and the establishment’s licensees, Mr and Mrs Sid Hayward.

On May 21, 1975, Mr and Mrs Ron Hood and Sid Abbott and his son posed for pictures alongside their steam engines.

The engines and the couples took part in the South Wilts Agricultural Preservation Society’s annual steam rally at Breamore House near Fordingbridge.

Alan Bailey showed off a product of four years of his spare spare time on May 21, 1979 – a model of a traction engine.

Alan worked on the model at his home in Winchester before allowing his son Mark to apply the finishing polish.

One of the images from July 21, 1979 showed a parade of vintage tractors at Netley Marsh Steam Rally lead by Mr Ivan Moody who was driving a Ransome smallholder’s tractor.
