It was the cream of English design, style and innovation on display at the Country Living Fair on February 28, 1994.
Sarah Barker, former pupil at Highfield School and The Atherley, took a degree in classics, dabbled in design and then went to work for Next.
“I was an assistant buyer and I hated it. I always wanted to design shoes and I only started this line to raise some capital but it seems to be really growing.”
Sarah’s Barker Shoes went on to supply John Lewis with footwear.
Ex-teacher, Peter Lloyd, created exquisite jewellery, needlework and thingummy boxes, fabulously turned, dovetailed and lined with great precision. Inside were lavishly lined with velvets, silks or leather.
All his creations were taken from a single chunk of English hardwood - some made from blowing down trees.
