It was the only way to travel. When Hollywood wanted to visit London, the rich and famous and the stars of the day had to make the journey by grand ocean liner from New York to Southampton.

And those were the days when stars wanted to be seen by their adoring public.

Dressed in their finest on all occasions they would pose for the cameras when the ships arrived in port.

And it was the Daily Echo’s photographers who were there to capture the moment, often the only ’snapper’ allowed access.

Today these images are a fascinating glimpse into an age of glamour that has been lost, probably for all time.
