THE Duchess of Kent took time out of her busy schedule to meet and greet some of Winchester’s older people.
Katherine Windsor was greeted with smiles and handshakes as she met with the residents of St John’s Winchester Charity in October 1984, and had a tour around some of their homes.
The Duchess was presented with a bouquet of flowers before kindly giving one to a delighted resident who enthusiastically sniffed to take in its scent.
Before leaving, the Duchess unveiled a plaque which symbolised the name change of the charity from St John’s Hospital.
St John’s Winchester Charity provides almshouses for local older people of limited financial and social need. With 77 units across the site, they provide housing for between 90 and 100 people with limited means.
