DAILY Echo reader Ian Pickworth is appealing to Hampshire Heritage readers to help him find out what happened to his father in the early years of the Second World War.
Ian has sent in this group photograph, which he believes features the Hampshire Home Guard. His father, Trevor Pickworth, is third from the left in the middle row.
Ian is trying to find out which platoon is in the photograph or if anyone knows any of the men present or can identify the location.
The other photograph is of Trevor Pickworth and it can be seen that he has the insignia of Second Lieutenant and the flash appears to read 13H.
Ian recalls that the Pickworths were living, at that time, in Grange Road, Botley. His father worked at Air Service Training Ltd in Hamble. His transport was a 1939 Norton and sidecar.
Ian writes: “He used to take his uniform to work with him, in order to go straight to his platoon, so it must have been in the Hamble, Woolston or Netley area.
“Sadly, he had an accident at Battle School in the Forest where a grenade exploded near to him. He spent many weeks in Lymington Cottage Hospital.
“Here’s hoping someone can help.”
Anyone with information can contact Hampshire Heritage at Newspaper House, Test Lane, Redbridge, Southampton, SO16 9JX, and we will share it with Ian.
