Lets just be cautious shall we? There's a long way to go to pay back £5m+ and the first weeks benefit from all the extra publicity.

I visited the SeaCity museum at the weekend a thought it was excellent. True I used my free ticket for being a Southampton resident but I would have paid anyway if this was not the case.

Firstly i am not a Doom-monger. I want Southampton to be a great City.

At the moment there are good numbers visiting which is in itself excellent news.... And contrary to what i was told recently.
.
However i object to £millions of taxpayers money propping it up and object most strongly to the LIES and SPIN coming from certain areas of the Council.
.
The judgement on this building cannot be made yet as it is still buzzing from the Titanic euphoria.
.
Lets have a report in six to nine months when the Titanic exhibits are gone ...... and the Freebies are used up.
.
That will be the true testing point when the future can then be truly assesed.

I have not been yet (I will very soon!) but those I know who have been expressed the exact same sentiments as your goodself. It is clearly a success and success often sticks in the craw of those who wish for failure!
It augurs well for the plans this council has in place for the future - they have shown that they are progressive and want to do their best for the City of Southampton. (Unlike their predecessors who sent us almost back to the middle ages! - ok, a slight exaggeration but you get my drift!)

Thats the whole purpose of publicity, both paid for or on the back of unpaid events.
The publicity has worked and someone should be commended for it.

we went on Monday, it was fantastic, something Southampton can be proud to show its visitors. We spend 4.1/2 hours there and only left then cos the time had run out on the parking. I especially enjoyed the exhibit about the children coming over Spain in 1937, my mum said her and her friend rollerskated to the camp with a big box of rock cakes that my nan had made for the children. All the children (now elderly) spoke about how kind the people of Southampton were. Would like to see a bigger exhibit about the 2nd world war at some point and hopefully more items brought out from the archives for us to see.

What you should try doing is reading my other posts on this, and many other subjects, relating to the improvements of our City.

You will notice that i am against using taxpayers money for buildings such as this and spending enormous sums on feasibilty studies whilst making people redundant.
.
I also object to a certain person in the council attempting to boost his ego on "pie-in-the-sky" projects that will never get off the ground, but makes him feel good.

If you are happy with that sharp practice in Southampton then fine ...... but i am not.

All museums should be free!! I remember the uproar when the Tories in Government charged for the big museums in London. luckily the next Government got rid of the charges.

We have a brilliant history in this country. It should be celebrated and should be free to all. Saying that I very much doubt Sea City will be a success in the long term. I reckon it will end up just becoming a museum or sold off as offices. Does the council (us!!) pay interest on this? Together with all the other 'projects' over the last 4/5 years how much interest will Council Tax payers be paying?

I disagree, all Museums should be able to charge a fee, but that money should be tax free, and used only for the upkeep of the aretfacts, not for lining peoples pockets.

Have you been abroad?
When I lived in Thailand & visited museums or historical buildings there people of Thai descent who lived in Bangkok( proven by ID card) didn't pay it was only non Thais who paid.
This council tried to do a similar thing by giving free passes out & people have slated them.
We have to learn to get out of this attitude & realise we can learn from other countries.
we should get out of this hole that socialists have dug themselves going on about Victorian days & look at the modern world.
If Labour truly want to see full employment or as close as possible then they will have to slash taxes for all & stop the reliance on the welfare state.
if you don't then please tell me where these jobs are coming from.
