Titanic II to set sail from Southampton in 2016 according to Australian billionaire Clive Palmer
12:12pm Thursday 4th October 2012 in Titanic News
By Keith Hamilton, Shipping & Heritage Reporter
The original Titanic
Titanic II, the multi-million pound replica of Southampton's ill-fated liner, will set sail from the city on her maiden voyage in 2016.
The date was announced by the Australian billionaire, Clive Palmer, who is funding the construction of the ship, when he revealed that detailed plans and designs for the vessel will be made public in New York in a few weeks time.
Mining magnate, Palmer, said: “The first voyage remains set for 2016, with the ship due to sail from China, where she will be built, to Southampton ahead of her maiden passenger crossing to New York.''
The businessman intends to hold a gala dinner on the retired aircraft carrier USS Intrepid in New York harbour on Tuesday, December 4, where guests will be treated to a dinner from the same menu as Titanic passengers on the day she sank in April, 1912.
At the event further features of the new ship will be disclosed although it is already known the vessel will mirror her predecessor's dimensions, measuring 885 feet long, and more than 173 feet high, and weighing 40,000 tonnes.
Titanic II will have 840 cabins and nine decks and retain the first, second and third-class divisions of the original White Star liner, which sank, 100 years ago, with the loss of 1,500 lives after striking an iceberg on her maiden voyage.

To be totally authentic, the stern of the ship should read, TITANIC LIVERPOOL.
I doubt - certainly I hope not - that the city authorities will want to have anything to do with this ship. Actually, I have a hunch that she will not get permission to visit here in the end.
Also, and interestingly, I've heard that the growing 'word' amongst the guys working in the docks, is that they won't have anything to do with this vessel either.

They really do not deserve to be continually cited as an example of something inferior, in a derogatory way. They were an advanced human species/sub-species of Homo sapiens, sapiens (ie us!). It is thought that they formed quite complex socially organised groups, similar to Homo sapiens, sapiens. Also, that they made highly advanced (for the time) tools of stone (and without doubt of other materials too) ;-)
Peachy1, only in your limited and closed worldview is China not associated with ship building. In the 15th century the Chinese built a fleet with approx the same tonnage as the rest of the world put together and sailed to S.America, Australia, S Africa, Greenland and the Caribbean. 60 Years before Colombus. 100 years before Magellan, The Mongols had previously built a huge fleet which they attempted to take Japan with. None actually. But if they had, I bet they'd at least have had the intelligence to have put enough lifeboats aboard...
