In 1912, the Platform Tavern would have looked directly out across the brand new docks, with a clear view of Titanic.

A number of crew - and indeed passengers - would have enjoyed a drink here before leaving Southampton onboard the doomed vessel.

One such person was first class steward James McGrady.

The 27-year-old listed the Platform Tavern as his address on the muster list before going on board.

He was lost in the sinking and his body was recovered from the Atlantic forty days after the tragedy.

In the 1997 film, Leonardo Di Caprio's character, Jack Dawson, won his tickets in a pub that looked over the berth Titanic was moored at. The only pub that did so in reality is the Platform Tavern.
